A college student who works as a construction laborer on weekends has become the center of discussion online after he was reportedly not included among the beneficiaries of a P20,000 scholarship program in his barangay.
Jaymark, an HRM student, lost both of his parents several years ago and has been supporting himself while pursuing his studies. To cover his school expenses and daily needs, he works in construction jobs every Saturday and Sunday.
Despite the challenges he faces, he continues attending school and is now close to completing his college education.
According to information shared online, Jaymark applied for the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang (BBM) Scholarship Program, which provides qualified students with financial assistance worth P20,000. However, he was reportedly not selected as one of the recipients.
Some netizens expressed surprise after learning that several scholarship slots allegedly went to students from families that were perceived to be financially stable, including relatives of local officials and individuals whose families already had regular sources of income.
The claims raise discussions among residents about how scholarship beneficiaries were chosen.
Jaymark shared that the financial aid would have been a big help, especially as he prepares for his upcoming on-the-job training and other school-related expenses. Despite his disappointment, he said he remains focused on finishing his studies and achieving his goal of graduating from college.
