Fabian Ph Update

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal has been hoisted over any part of the country. And recently, based on the latest weather bulletin, Fabian accordingly moves west-northwestward at 15 km/h with its center at 245 km West of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.3°N, 118.2°E).

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and a central pressure of 1006 hPa. Generally, it will move west-northwestward and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight.

Fabian will weaken as it moves out of PAR.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical storm outside the PAR, known internationally as “Podul.”

Based on the latest information about Podul, the center was at 2,410 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (20.6°N, 145.0°E), with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 90 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa.

It is less likely to affect the weather and sea conditions in the country within the next five days. According to the forecast, Podul will “move generally west northwestward tonight through tomorrow (09 August), then westward from Sunday (10 August) through Tuesday next week (12 August), then west northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.”

Podul may enter PAR between late Sunday evening and Monday early morning.

Tomorrow afternoon, it will reach the severe tropical storm category and will possibly intensify into a typhoon by Sunday.
