LGBTQ Members Arrested for Stealing Tire to Sell for Food in Kalibo
Two LGBTQ members were arrested in Kalibo for allegedly stealing a tire on Monday noon along Calachuchi Road in Barangay Andagao.
The suspects were identified as Lester, 22 years old, and Nik, 18 years old, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Both are residents of Kalibo but had reportedly been staying temporarily at the Kalibo Municipal Cemetery for about two weeks after leaving their homes.
According to the Kalibo Municipal Police Station, the pair were caught in the act of taking a tire that they allegedly planned to sell to a junk shop. Lester admitted that he stole the tire because they badly needed money to buy food.

He shared that they had not eaten anything since Sunday evening and were already struggling with hunger. Lester also explained that Nik supposedly had no part in planning the theft and was only with him at the time of the incident.
The tire was later recovered and safely returned to its owner. Despite what happened, the two expressed regret for their actions and apologized for the trouble they caused.
Authorities are now holding both suspects inside the lock-up cell of the Kalibo Municipal Police Station while waiting for the victim’s decision on whether formal charges will be filed against them.
Many people expressed their reactions to the incident. Some sympathized with the difficult situation faced by the two young individuals, while others pointed out that stealing is still against the law no matter the reason.
