Basketball Tournament in Manila Ends Up in Brawl Over Referee’s Call
A basketball tournament in Barangay 116, Manila ended in violence after a disagreement during a game led to a street fight and stabbing incident.
The trouble reportedly started after players argued over an intentional foul called during the match. The situation quickly escalated inside the court as both teams became heated over the referee’s decision.
The situation became even worse when some spectators and relatives of the players joined the argument. Instead of calming down, the conflict spread beyond the basketball court and turned into a full-blown brawl.
In the video, a man can be seen carrying a bladed weapon while chasing another person involved in the fight. The violent scene shocked residents in the area, especially since the tournament was meant to bring the community together.
One of the victims was identified as Arsenio Albario Jr., who was reportedly attacked by a man known only by the alias “Leo.” Reports said the victim became involved after trying to defend or assist relatives who were already part of the commotion.
Arsenio suffered injuries from the attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect quickly escaped after the incident and is now facing a possible frustrated homicide case.
According to Barangay Chairperson Edgar Solis, the misunderstanding began inside the basketball court but later spilled onto a nearby street after family members and supporters allegedly got involved.
Another resident was also hurt while trying to stop the fight. The resident said he only wanted to calm the situation but was suddenly attacked during the chaos.
Authorities are now continuing their investigation to identify everyone involved and prevent similar violence during community activities in the future.
