Pregnant Stray Dog in Bacolod Injured After Being Bitten by Piece of Wood
A pregnant stray dog suffered serious injuries after she was allegedly beaten with a piece of wood in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The dog, later named “Latlat,” was found in Barangay Tangub and rescued through the efforts of an animal welfare group after concerned residents sought help. According to reports, the animal was in poor condition when rescuers arrived.
Veterinarians who examined Latlat discovered that she had suffered multiple injuries. One of her eyes was badly damaged, with a ruptured cornea that caused bleeding. She also sustained a fracture in one of her legs and was found to be anemic, which makes her condition became even more concerning for the people caring for her.
Despite her injuries, Latlat is receiving treatment and is slowly recovering under the supervision of veterinary professionals. Rescuers remain hopeful that she and her unborn puppies will survive and eventually live healthier lives.
Residents in the area said the dog had been roaming around the neighborhood for some time and was not owned by anyone. Some claimed that the suspect may have attacked the dog out of fear that it could bite people, as there had been reports of previous biting incidents involving the stray animal.
Local barangay officials are now helping identify the person responsible for harming the dog. Animal welfare advocates and community leaders are also urging the public to treat animals with compassion and to seek proper assistance when dealing with stray or aggressive animals instead of resorting to violence.
Meanwhile, another animal welfare concern has emerged in Iloilo. Two dogs were found dead in Barangay Ermita, Dumangas, with local officials suspecting that the animals may have been poisoned.
Barangay leaders reminded pet owners to be responsible for their animals and ensure they are properly cared for and supervised. Authorities continue to encourage the public to report cases of animal cruelty so that appropriate action can be taken and more animals can be protected from harm.
