A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, which triggered a tsunami warning in some areas.

According to Indonesia’s geophysics agency, the earthquake occurred at around 4:58 a.m. at a depth of 15 kilometers. The strong shaking was felt across several areas, including the regions of Nagekeo and Bima, where residents rushed out of their homes to seek safety.
Many people reported that the tremor lasted for about a minute, creating fear and confusion as buildings shook violently.
Following the earthquake, several aftershocks were recorded. Small tsunami waves measuring less than one meter were also detected in some affected areas. As a precaution, authorities advised residents living along the coast, particularly in northern and parts of southern Flores, to move to higher ground while assessments were being carried out.
Some videos shared online showed frightened residents running into the streets as parts of structures appeared to collapse in Maumere City on Flores Island. In another area, patients were evacuated from a hospital in the Ende district to ensure their safety amid concerns about possible damage and aftershocks.
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of major infrastructure damage in many affected communities. However, initial information suggested that some homes and buildings may have suffered damage from the strong shaking.
Emergency response teams were deployed to assess the situation and determine the extent of the destruction. Officials are also continuing to verify reports regarding possible injuries and casualties.
Meanwhile, Australia’s tsunami warning center confirmed that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, its islands, or territories.
