Man Arrested After Being Caught Beating Dogs and Selling Their Meat
A man was arrested after several animal rights groups filed complaints against him for allegedly slaughtering dogs and selling their meat.
The suspect was taken into custody after videos and CCTV footage showed disturbing scenes involving the capture and abuse of dogs in Navotas City.
According to authorities, CCTV footage showed the man walking with a woman and a child along a street in Navotas. During the walk, they approached a stray dog. Moments later, the man reportedly caught the animal and repeatedly struck it on the head.
The woman then handed him a sack, which was used to place the dog inside. The sack was later loaded into the basket of a bicycle before the man rode away. The woman followed while carrying the child.
Another video showed a similar incident involving a different dog. The suspect allegedly caught the animal, beat it, and placed it inside a sack as well. These videos eventually reached animal welfare groups, prompting them to coordinate with authorities and file complaints.
The man was arrested and is now facing charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act. Investigators also discovered that he had previously been involved in a similar case related to the slaughter of dogs.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, the suspect allegedly transported dog meat to areas in Tondo and Binondo, where buyers were said to place orders. The suspect declined to give a statement while in police custody.
Animal welfare advocates reminded the public that killing dogs for meat is against the law. They also warned about possible health risks linked to consuming dog meat, noting that it may carry parasites and other harmful organisms that can affect human health.
Authorities and animal welfare groups are encouraging residents to immediately report cases of animal cruelty and suspicious activities involving pets or stray animals.
