University of Makati released a statement regarding a recent incident
On Friday, August 28, 2026, the University of Makati (UMak) confirmed that a student was found lifeless inside the university campus.
The educational institution released a statement confirming this news. Through a post on the official Facebook page of the university, it was said that they are actively coordinating with the student’s family and law enforcement authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.
To support the campus community during this time, university guidance counselors, trained faculty, and dedicated staff are readily available to provide psychological first aid and emotional support to any students or personnel in need.
The University of Makati has appealed to the public and the student community to respect the privacy of the grieving family and refrain from spreading speculative accounts or unverified details online.
“We kindly ask the community to respect the family’s privacy by refraining from spreading speculative details and by upholding compassion across all platforms,” the school authorities stated.
As of this writing, no further details have yet been released regarding the incident or the identity of the student.
In the past months, a highly unusual and alarming wave of youth-led campus violence occurred. A mass shooting took place at San Jose National High School in Tacloban last June. Based on reports, three were dead, and 20 others were injured. The suspects were also students, aged 14 and 15.
On August 18, a shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University shocked the country. The shooter livestreamed the attack on social media in a first-person perspective, just like those in video games.
Based on reports, the suspect was targeting a teacher, who survived, then he shot a classmate and turned the weapon on himself. It was found out that the weapon that the shooter used belonged to his father, who is a customs police officer.
