Tricycle Driver Settles Passenger Complaint, Fined P2,000

A tricycle driver in Kalibo, Aklan, faces fine of P2,000 after he allegedly shouted at and used harsh words against a female passenger.

On August 28, 2026, the lady passenger repeatedly told the driver where she wanted to get off, but the driver allegedly became angry and started saying hurtful words to her while they were on the road.

Feeling afraid during the trip, the passenger reportedly made a video call to her father so he could stay with her virtually while she was still inside the tricycle. She continued the call until she reached her destination.

After being dropped off, the woman reportedly walked to a nearby carinderia while crying and shaking because of what had happened. She later decided to report the incident to the authorities.

The passenger and the driver eventually met at the Kalibo Municipal Police Station to discuss the complaint. Both sides reached a settlement following the incident.

Based on the document presented, the driver was found to have violated Section 303, G50, which covers acts such as insolence, discourtesy, insult, arrogance, verbal abuse, violence, threats, and intimidation by a tricycle-for-hire driver against a passenger.

As part of the settlement, both the tricycle operator and the driver were fined P1,000 each, bringing the total penalty to P2,000.

The incident has also drawn attention to the importance of respectful treatment between drivers and passengers, especially during public transportation trips. Passengers should feel safe when using public vehicles, while drivers are expected to remain calm and professional even when problems arise during a trip.
