Recently, Sam, a Facebook user, shared a video showing a baby being placed inside a large plastic bag so the child could be lowered and rescued from a home surrounded by floodwaters. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions from members of the online community.
According to the uploader, no rescue team had arrived in the area despite hours of waiting, forcing residents to rely on their own resources to evacuate vulnerable family members.
In the video, one of the babies was placed inside a large plastic bag before being carefully lowered from the upper part of a house. A man standing in chest-deep floodwater received the infant and safely transferred the child into a basin that was used as a makeshift rescue vessel.
The desperate rescue method quickly caught the attention of social media users, with many expressing concerns about the baby’s safety after seeing the child inside a plastic bag. In response, the uploader clarified that holes had been made in the plastic to allow the baby to breathe. Sam also assured viewers that both babies involved in the rescue were safe.
The uploader explained that the family had no choice but to act on their own because rescuers had still not reached their area even after daylight had returned, and the floodwaters had begun to subside.
Fortunately, the family had life vests, and the baby’s older brother helped carry out the rescue with assistance from neighbors.
Several netizens also pointed out that plastic basins have been used in flood rescues in other countries, especially when conventional rescue equipment is not immediately available.
