Grade 8 Student General Santos City Stabbed by Fellow Student Inside School Canteen
A Grade 8 student was injured after being stabbed by a Grade 11 student inside the school canteen in General Santos City.
On Monday morning (September 8, 2026), a 15-year-old student was injured after being stabbed by an 18-year-old student inside the school canteen of Buayan National High School in General Santos City.
According to Soccsksargen police chief PBGen. Alan Manibog, the victim suffered stab wounds to the neck and the right side of the abdomen during the incident. The student was immediately assisted by his class adviser and brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities quickly responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. Police also recovered a folding knife measuring about five inches long, which was believed to have been used in the attack.
The 18-year-old suspect is now under police custody while investigators continue to gather information about what led to the violent incident. Initial findings suggest that alleged bullying may have played a role in the case.
Police are looking into reports that the suspect may have been subjected to bullying by the victim group before the stabbing happened.
Investigators stressed that they are still working to establish the full details of the incident and determine the exact sequence of events. Authorities are interviewing witnesses and reviewing all available information to better understand what happened inside the school.
Following the incident, the Department of Education in General Santos City announced plans to strengthen security measures in schools. Officials said stricter inspections will be conducted at school gates with the help of barangay tanods to prevent weapons and other prohibited items from entering school grounds.
