17-Year-Old College Student Loses Her Life Due to Alleged Cobra Bite
A 17-year-old college student tragically lost her life after she was reportedly bitten by a Philippine cobra in Davao Oriental.
Around 8:00 a.m. on September 20, 2026, the victim identified as Aiko left her family, friends, and community in mourning after losing her life due to alleged cobra bite. The incident took place in Katipunan, Batu-Bato, San Isidro, Davao Oriental.
According to Roy Jimenez, the victim’s boyfriend, they were outside their home sweeping the area when a neighbor arrived to buy shampoo from their small store. Aiko reportedly went inside the store to assist the customer, unaware that a large cobra was hiding inside.
After a few moments, the snake allegedly bit her on the leg. Roy said he was shocked when Aiko suddenly ran out of the store and rushed toward him while holding the injured part of her leg.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Roy immediately tried to help her. Her father also took quick action by tying the affected area in an effort to slow the spread of the venom while they waited for emergency responders to arrive.
The young woman was rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, despite efforts to save her, she reportedly died after the venom spread rapidly through her body.
Following the incident, residents in the area worked together to search for the snake. After locating it, several men reportedly killed the cobra. The snake was estimated to be nearly two meters long, making it one of the largest venomous snakes commonly found in the country.
The victim’s mother, Mary Jane Pantalion, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter. She shared her regret that she was not at home when the incident happened and grieved over the dreams and plans that her daughter would no longer be able to fulfill.
