Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo has previously clarified that she is running for president in the 2028 elections despite the massive calls for her to run again. She clarified that she will not be seeking any national position in the upcoming elections, putting an end to speculation about her possible candidacy.
However, the buzz surrounding her political plans has not completely died down, as fresh speculation has surfaced about a possible tandem between her and Manny Pacquiao in the upcoming elections.
Malacañang reacted to this and downplayed reports of a possible Robredo-Pacquiao tandem, saying there is no official information confirming that such a political arrangement is being considered by the administration.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said, “Ang tutok po ng Pangulo, unang-una, kailangan tugunan ang problema sa paparating na Super El Niño. Marami pa pong dapat tugunan, pati po itong mga isyu tungkol sa krisis sa Middle East.”
She added that it is still too early to talk about the upcoming elections.
“Sa ngayon po ay hindi politika o pamumulitika ang iniisip ng administrasyon. So, trabaho lang po muna tayo, huwag puro eleksyon, eleksyon, aksiyon, aksiyon muna,” Castro said.
This came after Robredo and Pacquiao interacted with the Marcos administration in different capacities.
Robredo met with President Marcos to discuss flood-control programs. The Palace said their meetings showed that they can work together despite their political differences.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao joined the Marcos Cabinet in September as secretary and lead convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission. His appointment has also fueled speculation about his possible political plans for the 2028 elections.
