Vhong Navarro Camp Says Fight for Justice Will Continue
VHONG NAVARRO – The It’s Showtime host will continue pursuing legal remedies after the Court of Appeals ordered the release of Deniece Cornejo and Cedric Lee and reduced their conviction from serious illegal detention to grave coercion.
The ruling is the latest development in the legal case involving Navarro, Cornejo, and Lee that has continued for more than a decade. The Court of Appeals lowered the offense from serious illegal detention, which carried a heavier penalty, to grave coercion. The modified sentence ranges from six months to three years, six months, and 21 days.
Navarro’s lawyer, Alma Mallonga, said the actor and television host continues to trust the country’s justice system. His legal team is prepared to pursue the legal options available to challenge or address the recent ruling. Navarro also remains willing to accept the final outcome once all legal proceedings have been completed.
Mallonga clarified that the Court of Appeals’ release order does not simply mean Cornejo and Lee have already completed their sentences based on the number of years they have been in detention. Their actual time served must still be determined according to the applicable laws and court records.
The Bureau of Corrections is currently reviewing the documents and calculating the exact time served by Cornejo and Lee. Authorities are also checking their Good Conduct Time Allowance, which may affect the total period they are required to remain in prison.
The two are also serving sentences related to a separate grave coercion case, which must be considered before their release can be finalized.
For now, Cornejo and Lee have not been immediately released while authorities complete the necessary review. Meanwhile, Navarro’s camp is expected to continue pursuing available legal remedies as the long-running case moves forward.
