Motorcycle Rider Lost His Life After Crashing Into Dog in Cotabato
A motorcycle rider died after crashing into a dog that suddenly crossed the road and being hit several times by other motorcycles along a dark highway in Midsayap, Cotabato.
The tragic incident was captured by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The video showed how a sudden encounter with the animal led to a fatal accident.
The dog unexpectedly ran across the national highway, leaving the rider unable to avoid it. After hitting the animal, the rider lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the road. He was unable to get back on his feet and remained lying on the dark highway.
After a few moments, two motorcycles passed through the area and hit the fallen rider one after another. Although some motorists had already noticed the victim on the road, two more motorcycles reportedly ran over him.
The police said the repeated impacts from the passing motorcycles caused the rider’s death. The darkness along that portion of the highway may have made it difficult for approaching motorists to see the victim in time to avoid him.
Authorities said the riders who hit the victim could face possible legal responsibility for their actions. Investigators may consider the circumstances surrounding the accident in determining whether any of the riders could be held accountable.
However, police also reported that the victim’s family no longer intended to file a complaint against the other riders involved in the incident.
The incident reminds motorists to remain alert, especially when traveling along poorly lit roads where animals may suddenly cross. Drivers and motorcycle riders are encouraged to reduce their speed at night, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and watch carefully for possible road hazards.
