Fire Senior Inspector Ronald Lim, commander of BFP Manila Station 1, said there were no reported injuries or casualties. “As of now, wala po tayong reported injury saka casualty,” Lim told ABS-CBN News.

Lim said responders faced difficulty laying long fire hoses because of the distance to the fire’s origin, and that wind from the nearby river helped the flames spread quickly. Residents helped rather than hindered firefighting efforts, he added. Some residents evacuated toward nearby Barangay 93, while others moved belongings onto Capulong Bridge.

One resident, 76-year-old Jesus Afadle, said he woke to neighbors shouting and saw the house next door already ablaze. He recounted hearing that cooking had been left unattended. “Lumabas ako, nakita ko may maliwanag na sa loob ng bahay nila. Ang balita ko, sabi lang nila, na nagluluto raw, iniwan. Parang kalan, yung super kalan,” Afadle told ABS-CBN News.

The BFP said the official cause and total damage estimate remain under investigation, including reports that the fire may have started from an unattended cooking stove. Authorities and the local government are preparing assistance for the affected families.
