Senate Drama Gets Unexpected Twist As Alan Peter Cayetano Uses Pokémon Example
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – In an unusual but creative approach, Alan Peter Cayetano turned to one of the world’s most popular franchises to make complicated political events easier to understand.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano recently turned to an unexpected pop culture reference to explain political tensions inside the Senate — Pokémon. During a Facebook Live session, Cayetano shared that he used the popular animated and gaming franchise as a way to help his nieces and nephews understand the conflict and developments that unfolded in the Senate on May 13.
Pokémon, a globally recognized Japanese animated series and video game franchise, revolves around various creatures called “Pokémon,” each possessing unique abilities. The story often centers on heroes and villains battling through challenges, making it a relatable framework for explaining complex ideas.
According to Cayetano, he chose not to rely on the common explanation often given to younger people: that they would only understand complicated matters once they became older.
Instead, he said he attempted to simplify the situation inside the Senate by discussing issues surrounding the International Criminal Court (ICC), the preventive custody involving Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, and the alleged “majority 13” group that reportedly removed former Senate President Tito Sotto III from leadership and installed him as Senate chief.
Cayetano also expressed gratitude to God, saying he was thankful for discovering a way to explain political events through a neutral perspective.
As part of his explanation, Cayetano introduced the idea that every person has a “Mega Dream” or a major life purpose. He shared his belief that individuals carry dreams aligned with God’s plan, but that opposing forces may also pursue their own objectives.
He further explained that achieving these goals requires what he called “Perfect Order.” To illustrate his point, Cayetano cited biblical stories, including Cain and Abel, as examples of how disorder emerged due to human wrongdoing.
He added that when “perfect order” and “mega dream” come together, heroes become necessary. At this point, he presented what he called an “Ascended Heroes” card. However, he emphasized that because people are imperfect, much like characters in comics, movies, or Netflix series, society will always have heroes and villains.
According to Cayetano, modern political thinking can sometimes resemble fraternity rivalries, where loyalty to one’s group becomes more important than determining what is right or wrong.
He later introduced another concept called the “Chaos Rising” card. Cayetano explained that disorder does not only come from individuals seeking to destroy systems but can also arise from those trying to preserve the status quo and resist change.
Still, Cayetano clarified that he was not claiming that one side was entirely good while the other was entirely bad.
In closing, he called for unity, encouraging people to learn to love their enemies and urging the public to spend less time bashing others on social media and more time reflecting and praying over the weekend.
The Senate incident on May 13 occurred days after Sen. Bato returned following six months of absence from plenary sessions. Authorities from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reportedly attempted to implement an International Criminal Court warrant related to allegations of crimes against humanity tied to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.
