Authorities Arrest Armed Drunk Man for Causing Disturbance Inside Church
An armed drunk man was arrested after causing a disturbance inside the Redemptorist Baclaran Church in Parañaque City.
On Sunday afternoon (August 30, 2026), a 30-year-old man was arrested after allegedly causing a disturbance and getting involved in a fistfight inside the church.
The suspect, identified by the Southern Police District as alias “Jenevie,” is a helper from Imus, Cavite. Authorities recovered a homemade firearm, commonly known as a “paltik,” from his possession.
The weapon was identified as a .38-caliber revolver containing one round of ammunition.
The incident happened before 5 p.m. when church security personnel noticed the man acting suspiciously. Initial investigation showed that he was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
As security guards attempted to escort him out of the church grounds, the suspect allegedly punched one of the guards. A brief scuffle followed before churchgoers, nearby police officers, and security personnel worked together to restrain and arrest him.
The commotion caused concern among people in and around the church, including vendors and devotees who were attending activities at the popular religious site. Some people were seen running after noticing the disturbance, while others moved away from the area for safety.
Church officials later clarified that no firearm was discharged during the incident. This helped ease fears that had spread among some devotees after the commotion inside the church compound.
Authorities also confirmed that two individuals sustained minor injuries during the arrest. Both were immediately given first aid and did not suffer serious harm.
Following the incident, police took the suspect into custody for further investigation following the incident. Authorities are preparing to file several charges against him, including alarm and scandal, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
