AUGUST 21 HOLIDAY – DOLE reminds employers and workers of proper pay rules for the August 2026 holidays, including special and regular holiday rates.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers and workers about the proper wage rates to be observed for the two holidays in August. There are two holidays: Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21, which is a special non-working day, and National Heroes’ Day on August 31, a regular holiday.
But how much should employees receive for working on these holidays?
The DOLE provided the following pay rules for workers on a special non-working holiday:
- No work: No additional pay, unless required by a CBA or company policy.
- Worked 8 hours: Receive an additional 30% of the basic wage.
- Worked overtime: Receive an additional 30% of the hourly rate for every overtime hour.
- Holiday falls on a rest day: Receive an additional 50% of the daily wage for 8 hours of work.
- Overtime on a rest day: Receive an additional 30% of the hourly rate for every overtime hour.
Meanwhile, here’s the regular holiday computation guide:
- No work on a regular holiday: The worker still receives their full daily salary.
- Worked 8 hours: The worker gets double pay (200%) of their basic daily wage.
- Worked overtime: The worker gets double pay plus an additional 30% of their hourly rate for every overtime hour.
- Regular holiday falls on a rest day: The worker gets double pay plus an additional 30% of the 200% holiday pay.
- Overtime on a rest day that falls on a regular holiday: The worker gets double pay, plus 30% additional pay, and another 30% for every overtime hour.
