Sen. Bam Aquino sets the record straight.
Senator Bam Aquino clarified on Thursday that he is not running for vice president in the upcoming national elections, or the Halalan 2028.
As early as this year, Vice President Sara Duterte declared that she is running for president in the 2028 elections. Many were surprised, and many also expressed their support for the second-in-command’s aspiration.

The opposition has not picked its candidate yet, but one of those pressed to run for a higher position is Senator Bam Aquino.
Amid the buzz and the speculations, the senator has set the record straight, and according to him, he has no plans of running for the vice presidency. In a Facebook post, he expressed, “I will not run for Vice President in 2028.”
There were reports earlier that Aquino might consider being Sara Duterte’s running mate. This followed Aquino’s earlier remark that, ideally, cases involving the alleged extrajudicial killings during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte should be heard and resolved in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros said the opposition could unveil its presidential bet for the 2028 national elections either before the end of this year or in early 2027.
In a previous article, Hontiveros expressed her openness to running for president or vice president in the upcoming national elections. She is willing, and her doors remain open for this possibility as long as this is what the united opposition would agree upon.
“I remain open, I remain willing and ‘yung kondisyon ko ay ‘yung tulad nung matagal ko na rin sinasabi—kung piliin ng united opposition,” the politician said.
Moreover, she said it remains unclear whether the opposition will need to align with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s camp to challenge Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2028 presidential elections.
