The Facebook page K5 News FM Kalibo 94.5 has shared a video of a barangay captain confronting motorcycle riders while carrying a machete in an effort to stop an alleged illegal street race in his community. The video garnered various reactions from the online community.
The incident involved Barangay Captain Mario Escares of Barangay Odiong and took place on the evening of August 14, 2026 (Friday).

In the video, Escares can be seen approaching several motorcycles that were reportedly involved in racing activities in the area. According to reports, residents have long complained about the repeated motorcycle races because of the loud noise they create and the danger they pose to both riders and bystanders.
The barangay captain later explained that he had no intention of harming anyone. He said his goal was to scare the riders and put an end to the activity, which had become a recurring problem in the community.
Escares also shared that police officers had already responded to the area at around 9:00 p.m. that evening. However, after authorities left, the motorcycle racers allegedly returned and continued their activities.
The barangay official decided to personally intervene as he was frustrated by the situation and concerned about the safety of residents. He reportedly brought a machete and approached those involved in an attempt to stop the race from continuing.
Illegal motorcycle racing remains a concern in many communities because it can lead to serious accidents, injuries, and disturbances to residents.
