“Hindi po ako ang kalaban.”

This was what host Bianca Gonzalez said in response to some Filipinos calling her out for her sentiments following the shakeup in the Senate.

The showbiz personality, who has always been vocal about the current affairs, was among those who commented on the sudden leadership change that ousted then-Senate President Tito Sotto III and installed then-Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano in the role.

The shakeup occurred as the House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, a move that some said was an attempt by her allies in the Senate to block the proceedings once it reaches the Upper Chamber.

This is because the Senate will convene as an impeachment court for trial once the Articles of Impeachment have been transmitted after the House has decided on the matter.

Bianca was among those who reacted to the development, expressing her disappointment over the sudden move in the Senate.

“Ang gusto lang naman ng mga Pilipino ay mapagaan ang buhay, na ang buwis na kinakaltas sa araw-araw at sa sweldo, ay maibalik sa paraan ng serbisyong pampubliko,” she wrote on Monday, May 11.

“Ano bang kailangang mangyari para matupad ‘yun, para magkaroon ng sistema’t liderato na tunay na para sa tao?” Bianca asked.

Her post has garnered 9,800 likes, 2,600 reposts and over 200 responses so far.

It caught the attention of an online user, who accused Bianca of being “performative.”

“Ate Biancs, your dedication to performative politics should honestly be studied,” an X user wrote in a quote post.

“Performative” is defined as something “made or done for show (as to bolster one’s own image or make a positive impression on others).”

“I’ve been around way too long in the fight for good governance, since pre-social media days, to be categorized as performative,” Bianca responded to the X user.

“Hindi po ako ang kalaban,” she added with emojis of folded hands and the Philippine flag.

Bianca is known for being associated with fellow TV hosts Toni Gonzaga and Mariel Rodriguez, who are all collectively known as “Kuya’s Angels” for hosting the reality show “Pinoy Big Brother.”

Toni has expressed her support for the Marcoses in the 2022 presidential elections, while Mariel is the spouse of Sen. Robin Padilla, a Duterte ally.

Bianca, meanwhile, supported former Vice President Leni Robredo, who ran against Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the 2022 presidential elections.

In an appearance on DJ Chacha’s “From the Heart” on April 24, Bianca shared that she, Toni and Mariel remain friends because “they never said anything bad about each other” despite the noise.

“Why would we?” Bianca said.

She added that they continue to have a “respectful” and “harmonious” relationship despite their different political beliefs because they “never said anything bad about each other.”
