Big-Time Oil Price Hike Set on Tuesday (March 10, 2026)
FUEL PRICE UPDATE – Various gasoline stations in the country are set to implement a big-time oil price hike starting this week.
Starting Tuesday (March 10, 2026), motorists may soon feel the impact of higher fuel prices as oil companies prepare to implement a significant increase this week. The Department of Energy (DOE) said pump prices could go up by around P17 to P24 per liter, but the adjustment will not happen at all at once.
Instead of a sudden big increase in a single day, fuel companies agreed to divide the adjustment across several days. The staggered approach will run from Tuesday until the following Monday.
Some companies are planning smaller daily increases of around P2.50 per liter, while others may apply a bigger adjustment at the start and continue with smaller changes afterward. The goal is to soften the immediate impact on drivers and businesses that rely on fuel.
Energy officials explained that the government cannot directly control fuel prices because the oil industry in the country operates under a deregulated system.
Oil companies determine their own prices based on movements in the global market, while the DOE mainly monitors the situation and informs the public about expected changes.
The expected increase comes as global oil prices continue to rise due to tensions in the Middle East. Military actions and retaliatory strikes in the region have raised concerns about oil supply.
The DOE has also stepped up efforts to make sure fuel retailers follow existing rules. Temporary price ceilings were set for petroleum products from March 6 to March 9 to prevent unfair price increases while the market remains unstable.
Inspection teams from the DOE have been deployed in different parts of the country to check gas stations. The agency is also working with the Philippine National Police and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to strengthen monitoring.
Authorities warned that companies found violating price limits or engaging in hoarding could face serious penalties, including the loss of their licenses to operate.
