DOE Announces Big-Time Oil Price Increase This Week

FUEL PRICE UPDATE – A big-time oil price increase is expected to take effect starting Tuesday (September 8, 2026).

Filipino motorists across the country are set to face higher fuel expenses this week as oil companies prepare to implement a major increase in pump prices.

According to the Department of Energy, diesel will see the biggest adjustment, rising by P5.18 per liter. Gasoline prices will also climb by P4.69 per liter, while kerosene will increase by P5.58 per liter.

Several major oil firms have already confirmed the increase. Shell Pilipinas, Petro Gazz, and Seaoil will apply the new prices beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The adjustments are expected to affect private motorists, public transportation operators, and businesses that depend heavily on fuel for daily operations.

The latest increase comes only a week after consumers enjoyed a rollback in fuel prices. However, developments in the global oil market quickly reversed that trend, leading to another round of higher pump prices.

Industry observers pointed to growing tensions in the Middle East as one of the main reasons behind the sharp increase. The new conflict involving the United States and Iran has raised fears of possible disruptions to oil supplies.

Investors have also been closely watching developments around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route used by oil tankers transporting crude oil to different parts of the world.

Concerns over global energy supply have intensified as tanker traffic in the region remains affected by security risks. At the same time, continued attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure have added pressure to international oil markets, contributing to the rise in crude oil prices.

The weakening value of the Philippine peso against the US dollar has further pushed local fuel prices higher, making imported petroleum products more expensive.
