Family Questions Three-Hour Wait for Child Injured by Barbecue Stick at Hospital Emergency Room

A child with a barbecue stick lodged in his foot reportedly had to wait three hours before receiving medical attention.

Recently, Lyle Coruña, a Facebook user, shared the experience of his 13-year-old grandson, who reportedly waited three hours before receiving treatment in a hospital emergency room after being pierced by a barbecue stick. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions from the online community.

Worried about the injury, the family immediately brought the child to the Ospital ng Palawan to seek medical attention.

According to Coruña, hospital staff were able to record the patient’s information upon arrival. However, they were allegedly told to wait because there was no available doctor or nurse who could immediately attend to the child.

As the waiting time continued, the family became increasingly concerned. Coruña said the boy’s foot had started to feel numb while they remained in the emergency room without receiving treatment. The family feared that the condition could worsen if medical attention was delayed further.

The child was eventually attended after around three hours, but the incident left the family questioning why there were reportedly no available medical personnel to handle emergency cases at that time.

Instead of filing a formal complaint, Coruña decided to share the experience on social media. Several individuals commented that they had experienced similar situations in the same hospital’s emergency room, with some claiming they had also waited for long periods before being treated.

Coruña also mentioned seeing another patient who had allegedly been waiting for about four hours inside the emergency room. The account added concerns raised by other online users regarding delays in emergency care.

As of this writing, the management of Ospital ng Palawan has been asked to provide its side and clarify what happened in the emergency room during the incident. The public continues to await an official explanation regarding the matter.

“We have emergency (wound/stick) at ONP now. Been waiting for three (3) hours. Ininterview lang pero walang gumagalaw, wala daw doktor o nurse na available. Katabi namin, 4 hours na sa emrgncy room hindi pa rin naaasikaso. Grabe. Totoo pala yung palaging reklamo. Mamamatayan ka pala talaga sa Ospital Ng Palawan. Personal experience ko na ito, hindi tsismis.“
