Passengers and Crew Help Prevent Mid-Air Disaster After Co-Pilot Allegedly Attacks Captain
Passengers and crew aboard a flydubai flight prevented a mid-air disaster after a co-pilot allegedly attacked the aircraft’s captain.
On September 30, 2026, Flydubai Flight FZ1073 was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 passengers on board when the incident happened. The co-pilot reportedly stabbed the captain inside the cockpit.
Following the attack, the aircraft suddenly descended by nearly 14,000 feet in a short period of time, causing alarm among those on board. The unexpected drop created panic as passengers and crew members tried to understand the incident.
Authorities said the situation was brought under control after crew members and several passengers intervened. Their actions reportedly helped stop the co-pilot and prevented the situation from becoming even more dangerous.
A fortunate circumstance also played a major role in the outcome. Two off duty flydubai pilots were reportedly among the passengers on the flight. They stepped in to assist and were able to help regain control of the aircraft.
The plane was eventually diverted and safely landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Emergency procedures were carried out, and passengers were able to leave the aircraft safely after the incident.
Although everyone on board survived, travelers faced a long wait before continuing their journey. Reports said the passengers remained in Saudi Arabia for more than 10 hours while arrangements were made for another aircraft.
A replacement plane later transported them safely to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, where they finally completed their trip.
Many of the passengers described the experience as something they never expected to go through and expressed relief that the flight ended without further tragedy. Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are continuing to question the suspect as they work to determine the motive behind the reported attack.
