Authorities Arrest Construction Worker for Allegedly Stabbing Jeepney Barker Friend Over Jealousy
A 39-year-old construction worker was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his friend, a jeepney barker, in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.
On Wednesday evening (August 19, 2026), the 40-year-old victim was working beside the road. Initial findings from the investigation showed that the suspect approached the victim to talk, according to Batasan Police Station Commander Lt. Col. Gemmer Tubiera.
The two then moved to a darker area near the roadside, where the stabbing allegedly took place.
“Pinuntahan siya ng ating suspek sa kaniyang pinagbabarkeran para kausapin. Dinala siya sa madilim na bahagi ng daan at doon na siya inundayan ng saksak,” Tubiera said.
Police investigators believe jealousy may have been the motive behind the attack. Based on their findings, the suspect had reportedly become upset after learning that the victim had been sending messages to a woman he was interested in.
Investigators also learned that the suspect had allegedly asked the victim to leave the house where they had been staying several days before the stabbing. The disagreement reportedly continued until it escalated into violence.
Reports further revealed that both men had consumed alcohol before the incident occurred. During the confrontation, the victim suffered an injury to his left arm. He was immediately brought to a hospital, where he is currently recovering from his wound.
After the attack, the suspect fled the area. However, police quickly launched a follow-up operation and later located him in Fairview, Quezon City. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the stabbing. Investigators said the weapon still had traces of blood when it was seized.

While under police custody, the suspect denied stabbing the victim. He claimed that the victim was holding a knife and accidentally slipped. He also denied that jealousy played a role in the incident and said he only intended to confront the victim regarding a separate issue.
The suspect is currently being held at the Batasan Police Station and is expected to face a complaint for frustrated murder as the investigation continues.
