A Grade 9 student from Cotabato City was left paralyzed after suffering a stroke due to excessive online gaming, lack of sleep, and skipping meals.
A 14-year-old is now facing a long road to recovery after suffering a stroke that left her struggling to walk, speak, and perform daily activities.
According to her grandfather, the teenager’s health suddenly worsened after months of spending long hours on her cellphone, often staying awake until the early morning and sometimes missing meals.
The family believes these habits may have contributed to the decline in her condition, although medical professionals have not publicly identified a specific cause of the stroke.
The girl reportedly spent much of her time playing online games and rarely left her room. Her grandfather shared that she often slept very late and did not always eat on time.
One evening, the family noticed something was seriously wrong when the teenager suddenly experienced alarming symptoms. She reportedly became pale, suffered convulsions, and lost movement on one side of her body.
Her family immediately rushed her to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Doctors later confirmed that she had suffered a stroke. The diagnosis came as a shock to her loved ones because strokes are more commonly associated with older adults. The family said the incident was life-threatening and that they feared her survival during the critical stage of her treatment.
Although she has already been discharged from the hospital, her recovery is far from over. She still experiences difficulty walking and requires continued medical care and therapy to regain her strength and mobility.
The family is grateful that they no longer have to worry about the hospital bill, which reportedly exceeded P200,000. However, they remain concerned about the teenager’s future as she continues her rehabilitation.
