Holdup Suspect Robs Tourism Student in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City
A holdup suspect who targeted an 18-year-old first-year tourism student was arrested in Oplan Galugad operation.
An 18-year-old first-year tourism student became the victim of a robbery while on her way home in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, leaving her shaken and unable to submit an important school project.
The student had just finished working on a video project for a school activity and was heading home when two men allegedly approached and blocked her path.
Based on CCTV footage from the area, the victim stepped back as the suspects confronted her. One of the men reportedly threatened her and demanded that she hand over her belongings. Fearing that she might be harmed, the student gave up her cellphone, which was valued at around P27,000.
Aside from losing her phone, the young student said the experience left a deep emotional impact. She has been struggling to sleep and feels afraid to go outside. The incident has also affected her studies, especially since her classes recently shifted online because of bad weather conditions.
After reporting the crime to authorities, the Pasig City Police Sub-Station 5 launched an Oplan Galugad operation along Caliwag Street. The operation led to the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect who was identified through CCTV footage as the person who allegedly grabbed the victim’s cellphone.
Although the stolen phone was not recovered, police reportedly found around one gram of suspected shabu in the suspect’s possession during the arrest.
Authorities said the suspect had previously been jailed several times for cases related to illegal drugs. Barangay officials also claimed that he was part of a group that allegedly targets students, believing they are less likely to resist during robberies.
The suspect is currently being held at the Pasig City Police Station and is facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Meanwhile, the victim has expressed her intention to file a case of Robbery with Violence or Intimidation of Persons.
