Jinggoy Estrada Reportedly Falls Before Hospital Visit
JINGGOY ESTRADA – The senator reportedly fell inside his detention cell at the Quezon City Jail – Male Dormitory in Payatas, Quezon City, on Wednesday morning, August 26, while preparing to leave for a scheduled medical check-up.
Estrada’s camp said his left knee suddenly gave way while he was standing. The incident reportedly happened while he was taking a bath. He was preparing to leave the detention facility for a scheduled X-ray of both knees at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City at around 1 p.m.
The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division had allowed Estrada to temporarily leave the jail for the medical examination. He was permitted to leave at around 11 a.m. and was required to return to the detention facility before 3 p.m.
Estrada has been experiencing recurring pain in both knees. Court records also indicate that he has joint swelling and was previously diagnosed with osteoarthritis, a condition that can cause pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving.
The court also ordered Estrada to cover all expenses related to his temporary release and medical examination. Only his family members, lawyers, and medical staff were allowed to accompany or approach him during the trip.
The fall occurred shortly before Estrada was scheduled to undergo the medical examination. The X-rays were intended to check the condition of both knees and help determine the appropriate medical treatment.
Estrada remains detained while facing his ongoing legal case. His temporary release was specifically granted to allow him to receive medical attention for his knee problems.
The incident adds to Estrada’s reported health concerns while in detention. Further details about his condition are expected after the medical examination and evaluation by his doctors.
