Korina Sanchez shared her thoughts on her recent visit to Davao
Veteran journalist Korina Sanchez was obviously unimpressed with what she saw in Davao during her recent visit.
Davao is a known bailiwick of the Duterte clan, one of the most prominent political families in the Philippines. For more than 22 years, former President Rodrigo Duterte served as the mayor of Davao City.
Currently, his son, Baste Duterte, is serving as the mayor, while his other son, Pulong Duterte, has been the Davao City 1st District Representative since 2019.
Vice President Sara Duterte also served as Davao City Mayor for nearly nine years before she ventured into national politics.
DDS or “diehard Duterte supporters” have been boasting that Davao City is like Singapore. However, for Korina Sanchez, and with her recent visit, this was not the case at all.
A post on Reddit under r/newsPH showed a clip of Korina’s statement about Davao. “Pumunta nga ako ng Davao eh, sabi ko, ‘ito na ba ‘yun?’ Bakit parang ano, di ba?” she said.
She stressed that this was just her opinion. “Parang sinauna pa rin,” the veteran journalist shared. Korina pointed out that she has been a reporter in the 80s and 90s, and she would feature the place. For her, there was no drastic change that was seen except for a few “hubs” because of Ayala and Megaworld.
“Hindi mo makikita sa ibang lugar ang progreso, napag-iwanan,” Korina Sanchez said.
In the comment section of this post, several netizens agreed with what Korina said. Some netizens said that there should be no comparison between Davao and Singapore, while for some netizens, Cebu and other cities in the Visayas like Bacolod and Iloilo are much better than Davao.
