Naga Mayor Leni Robredo To Not Run for President in 2028 Elections
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President and now Naga Mayor announced that she will not run for president in the 2028 Electiions.
Former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Robredo is one of those who leads the presidential race for the 2028 Elections based on the latest surveys. The recent survey results even showed that the gap between Robredo and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has tightened. Many supporters and colleagues of the Naga Mayor are calling for her to run for the presidency again in the next national polls.
Naga Mayor Robredo was previously asked about the possibility that she will run for president again in 2028. The questions and the calls came after Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that she will run for president in the next national election.
Former Vice President and Naga Mayor Leni Robredo refused to give direct answers then on the possibility that she will run for president in 2028 but expressed respect on the decision of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to make the announcement. She stressed that it is anyone’s right.
Several colleagues of the former Vice President want her to seek the presidency again. Former senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative Leila de Lima believes that Robredo remains the opposition’s strongest bet for the presidency.
When previously asked about her possible presidential bid in 2028, Naga Mayor Leni Robredo stressed that she just assumed the mayoralty post and there are still a lot of works to be done. She also emphasized her belief that it would be a “disservice” to the people in her hometown to talk about the next elections now.
However, recently, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes slammed the alleged “nonchalant” stance of Naga Mayor Leni Robredo on the supposed possibility of another Duterte presidency. The former Senator who is a staunch critic of the Dutertes stressed that Robredo has to be definitive as her stance may allegedly weaken the posture of the opposition.
“But if she’s going to rule out any scenario that she’ll run in 2028, she has to be definitive because (Senators) Bam (Aquino) and Risa (Hontiveros) will not grow. She will have to be definitive and the fact that she isn’t definitive leads me to conclude that she is really interested,” Trillanes said.
Recently, based on News5, former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo put an end to the questions about the possibility that she will run for president again in 2028. The Naga City Mayor announced that she will not run for any national post in the next elections.
“Sigurado na ako sa sarili ko na hindi ako magna-national,” Robredo told RMN 91.1 DWNX FM.
Former VP and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo admitted that she is aware that some people are still calling for her to run for the presidency in 2028. However, based on the post, the former Vice President stressed that it is already far from her pursuit to go back to the national level. She admitted that she might run for mayor in her city again.
“Aware naman ako na may mga gusto pang tumakbo ako… Ngayon, malayo na sa horizon ko. Malayo na sa horizon ko na babalik pa ako sa national,” the Naga Mayor said.
Aside from her colleagues in the political arena, some showbiz personalities also want the former Vice President to seek the presidential post again. Entertainment writer and talent manager Ogie Diaz is one of those who recently expressed his continued support for Naga Mayor Leni Robredo.
