A government social media account’s wedding anniversary greeting to a city mayor and his wife drew criticism.
A Reddit user shared a screenshot of a Facebook post by the Parañaque city government, which congratulated Mayor Edwin Olivarez and his wife on their 37th wedding anniversary.
The greeting included a three-paragraph caption and a photo of the couple in traditional Filipino attire.
The post was noticed by a Redditor, who highlighted it in the “r/pinoy” community on Thursday, January 15.
“Kailangan ba talaga i-post gamit ang official government page,” the user said.

“Itong mga ‘to, saksakan na talaga ng pagka-epal eh. Lakas mag-post ng walang kwenta pero ‘pag at [sic] important announcements, aaaapakatagal mag-announce,” the Redditor wrote.
The city’s official Facebook page is managed by its Public Information Office (PIO).
Official pages like this are primarily used by local governments to share announcements, updates on projects and services, and other initiatives. They are not generally expected to publish personal posts.
PIOs rely heavily on Facebook, which remains the most popular social media platform among Filipinos.
