Sen. Loren Legarda proposed the Senate Bill 1856 or the ₱200 Daily Minimum Wage Increase Act of 2026 last February because of the effect of inflation.

Legarda also called again for the suspension of excise tax and VAT on diesel and gasoline, insisting that assistance should not be limited to LPG and kerosene.

Back in March, the senator also expressed dismay over the oil price hike because the fuel was purchased at a regular price before the war but it is being sold at a much higher price.

Before this, Legarda also questioned the 12 percent VAT in basic commodities like noodles and sardines, which is the same tax in luxury bags. She pointed out that this does not make sense.
