Sen. Loren Legarda Still Yet To Return to PH
LOREN LEGARDA – The Senator will skip for the consecutive week the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
More and more senators are undeniably facing different complaints now. Aside from Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Rodante Marcoleta, Sen. Legarda is also faced with plunder complaints now filed by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Sen. Loren Legarda is faced with graft and plunder complaints together with her son, Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste, and former Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi. They are also faced with alleged conflict of interest.
Legarda, Leviste, and Cusi are facing complaints filed by the office of Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla over a P10 billion worth of underdeveloped solar projects and alleged “ghost electricity”.
The solar company owned by Rep. Leandro Leviste allegedly failed to deliver solar power generation despite securing exclusive government rights and franchises. As for the conflict of interest accusation, the young Congressman is accused of having the contract allegedly because of the influence of his mother, Sen. Loren Legarda, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee then.
When the complaint broke out, Sen. Loren Legarda is confirmed to have flown to France amid a medical leave. According to Sen. Erwin Tulfo, the request for a medical leave was filed by Legarda to Senate Pres. Sherwin Gatchalian and the break covers the period from August 3 to August 5.
Tulfo clarified that Legarda was able to comply with all the necessary procedures prior to her departure. Her medical leave takes place amid the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Recently, amid the questions, Sen. Loren Legarda opted to extend her medical leave as per a report of the Philippine Star. Based on the report, it will be the second consecutive week that Legarda misses the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
The extension of the medical leave of the Senator was confirmed by her office. She is part of the Senate minority bloc and she was the Senate President Pro Tempore under the lead of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano who is also faced with accusations regarding to the projects in Taguig.
Amid the criticisms and the speculations, Sen. Loren Legarda previously urged the public not to misinterpret her trip abroad.
