LTO Employee Nabbed After Alleged Involvement in Hit-and-Run Incident

An LTO employee was arrested after allegedly hitting two women who were crossing a pedestrian lane in Antipolo City. 

A 39-year-old employee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) was arrested after allegedly hitting two women who were crossing a pedestrian lane and then leaving the scene without stopping. 

The incident happened on the evening of August 14, 2026 (Friday) along Sumulong Highway. According to reports, the two women were using a pedestrian lane when they were struck by a vehicle.

In the video, the women crossing the road moments before they were hit. Instead of stopping to check on the victims, the driver allegedly continued driving away from the area. The incident was witnessed by Police Executive Master Sergeant Andy Evangelista, who was off duty at the time. 

Evangelista immediately pursued the vehicle. After about ten minutes, he was able to catch up with and stop the driver. 

According to the police officer, the driver admitted that he had consumed alcohol before driving. However, the driver reportedly claimed that he was unaware that he had hit anyone.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Antipolo Police Precinct in Cogeo. Authorities said he is expected to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and abandonment of one’s own victim. 

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered the dismissal of the employee from government service and the cancellation of his driver’s license. The agency stressed that such behavior should not be tolerated. 

“Walang puwang sa LTO ang lasing na pagmamaneho, hit-and-run, at anumang kilos na naglalagay sa panganib sa buhay ng publiko. Lalo na kung ang sangkot ay mismong kawani ng ahensya na inaasahang nagpapatupad ng batas,” he said.

Meanwhile, the two victims sustained injuries and received medical treatment. They have since been discharged from the hospital and are continuing their recovery. 

One of the victims has expressed determination to pursue legal action, hoping that the driver will be held accountable for the incident.
