Pickup Driver Who Challenged E-Bike Rider Faces LTO Action
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a Show Cause Order to a pickup driver who challenged an e-bike rider to a fist fight.
The agency issued a Show Cause Order to the registered owner and driver of a Mitsubishi Strada involved in the road rage incident. The confrontation reportedly happened inside the CCP Complex and was later posted on Facebook, where it quickly caught the attention of many netizens.
In the viral video, the pickup driver was seen confronting an e-bike rider. The rider was reportedly carrying a child passenger at the time. The driver’s aggressive behavior and harsh words drew criticism online, with many people calling the act dangerous and irresponsible.
After reviewing the incident, the LTO began an initial investigation and found that the vehicle involved had not been registered for several years. Records showed that the last registration of the pickup truck was on September 28, 2022. The vehicle was already unregistered when the incident took place.
The LTO required the registered owner and the driver to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division. They were also ordered to submit sworn statements explaining their side of the story.
Authorities are looking into several possible violations, including operating an unregistered motor vehicle and allowing an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. Other violations may also be discovered as the investigation continues.
While the case is being reviewed, the vehicle has been placed under alarm status. The driver’s license has also been suspended for 90 days.
If the driver and the registered owner fail to appear at the scheduled hearing or do not submit an explanation, it will be treated as a refusal to face the case. It could also lead to losing their chance to defend themselves during the investigation.
