Statement of Malacañang on Alleged Impeachment Move against Pres. Bongbong Marcos
Malacañang called the impeachment talk against Pres. Bongbong Marcos as alleged “political maneuverings” and “unsubstantiated”.
Two (2) members of the House of Representatives, Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative Leila de Lima and House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Rep. Edgar Erice, were set to file a complaint over the 2026 national budget immediately after Marccos Jr. signed the spending bill. The House members questioned the the presence of unprogrammed funds in the government’s fund for this year.
The questions of de Lima and Erice came even after Marcos Jr. slashed several unprogrammed appropriations in the 2026 national budget. The President rejected the following:
- Government Counterpart for Certain Foreign-Assisted Projects: P35.77 billion
- Budgetary Support for Government Owned and Controlled Corporations: P6.895 billion
- Insurance of Government Assets and Interests: P2 billion
- Prior Years’ Local Government Unit Shares: P14.623 million
- RACE Program (Automotive Industry Competitiveness): P250 million
- CARS Program (Automotive Industry Support): P4.32 billion
- Payment of Personnel Services Requirements: P43.245 billion
The approved budget for 2026 is amounting P6.79 trillion. Amid the questions of the country’s fund for this year, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice claimed that an impeachment complaint may allegedly be filed against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. when the sesssion of the Congress resumes.
Recently, Malacañang reacted to the impeachment talks against Marcos Jr. Based on a post of News5 on social media, Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro called the impeachment talks as alleged “political maneuvering”.
“He (Pres. Marcos Jr.) respects the existing constitutional processes and believes that any actions taken by members of Congress will be driven by facts, the law, and national interest,” the Malacañang official said.
Based on the post, Malacañang press officer Atty. Claire Castro also called the statement as “unsubstantiated”. According to her, it came from “supporters of a certain politician”.
Previously, Malacañang expressed the side of the Marcos Jr. administration over the 2026 national budget that the President has recently approved. The country operated on a reenacted budget in the first week of January.
