Statement of Malacañang on Marcos Jr. Cabinet Members
Malacañang reacted to the criticisms of Senator Imee Marcos against some of the “acting” Cabinet secretaries of President Bongbong Marcos.
It is no secret to the public that the Marcos siblings are currently on the opposite sides of the political spectrum. Amid the rift between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, her sister, Sen. Imee Marcos, aligned herself with the Dutertes.
In 2025, after former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested and flown to The Hague, Netherlands for the transfer of his custody to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Sen. Imee Marcos left the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago, the senatorial slate endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
The next thing that the Filipino people witnessed was Vice Pres. Sara Duterte endorsing Sen. Imee Marcos. The Senator also led a probe in the Senate over the arrest and the transfer of the custody of the elder Duterte to the ICC.
Last March 11, exactly one year since the former President was arrested, Sen. Imee Marcos even filed a Senate resolution urging for the full disclosure of the details surrounding the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to her, it supposedly shows the alleged lack of transparency over hwtra happened.
“Yet, to this day, the Government has failed to provide accountability or meaningful redress for the ongoing impairment of FPRRD’s constitutional and statutory rights,” rhe Senator said.
Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos criticized the alleged “acting” secretaries and appointees of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to the Presidential Sister, there are supposedly many of them. Malacañang reacted to the claim of the presidential sister.
“Napakarami ng Cabinet-level na mga secretary at appointee ng Presidente na puro acting… Siyam na sila sa bilang ko. ‘Yung iba, paso na sa one year, hindi na siya temporary, overacting na ‘yun,” the Senator said based on a post of News5.
Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro stressed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte must have already known that acting secretaries can remain in their position for a year. According to her, the Cabinet secretaries of PBBM have yet to reach a year in their position.
“Alam naman po niya na ang mga acting secretaries can remain as acting secretaries for a period of one year. Kung susumahin po niya ang lahat ng na-appoint sa ngayon na acting secretaries, wala pa pong one year ang pagsisilbi sa kanilang posisyon,” Castro said.
Furthermore, based on the post, the Malacañang Undersecretary stressed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is simply exercising his prerogative to appoint. Atty. Claire Castro stressed that the President can make both temporary and permanent positions.
“The President means no offense to the Commission on Appointments. [He] is merely exercising his constitutional prerogatives. He can make an appointment in temporary or permanent positions,” the Malacañang press official said.
Previously, amid the political turmoil in the Philippine government, the Senator claimed that PBBM is allegedly using illegal drugs. Ilocos Norte Congressman and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos reacted to the claims of his aunt about his father and their family.
