Man Hacked to Death Over Alleged Unpaid P900 Debt in Isabela
A man lost his life after he was allegedly attacked while sleeping in a hammock in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Jones, Isabela.
According to police reports, the victim suffered multiple hacking wounds on different parts of his body, particularly on his head and back. The injuries were severe and led to his death at the scene.
Police said the incident happened shortly after midnight. Before the attack, the victim had traveled to the barangay on August 17, 2026, and spent the afternoon drinking with the suspect and several of their acquaintances.

Investigators learned that an argument broke out during the gathering. The disagreement was reportedly related to a P900 debt that the victim allegedly owed the suspect. Police said the debt had remained unpaid for about three years.
During the heated exchange, the victim reportedly told the suspect that he would settle the debt. However, the conversation became more tense after he allegedly made remarks that further angered the suspect in front of the people who were with them.
After the drinking session ended, the victim left the area and went to the home of an acquaintance. He spent the night resting in a hammock located behind the house.
At around 12:10 a.m., the homeowner was awakened by barking dogs and unusual noise coming from outside. When he checked what was happening, he reportedly found the victim already dead. The suspect was then seen fleeing from the area.
Authorities immediately launched a hot pursuit operation and were later able to locate and arrest the suspect.
The suspect is facing a murder complaint in connection with the incident. However, police said he was temporarily released because of a lack of sufficient evidence needed to keep him in custody while the investigation continues.
Authorities are still gathering more information and evidence to determine the details regarding the incident.
