Man in Ilocos Sur Caught on Video Hurting PWD Mother-in-Law
A man in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur was caught on camera hurting his 57-year-old mother-in-law, who is a person with disability (PWD).
On March 3, 2026, a short cellphone video showing a hitting his mother-in-law using a t-shirt went viral and garnered various reactions from the online community. The four-second clip captured the moment the woman was struck while inside their home.
Another video showed the situation becoming more alarming. In the footage, the man was seen carrying a small LPG tank and appeared ready to swing it toward the elderly woman, who was begging him to stop.
According to Desiree Villanueva, one of the victim’s daughters, the man had just arrived home drunk from work after being picked up by his wife. Before the attack happened, he and his wife were already arguing inside the house.
The disagreement reportedly started because the man felt that his wife was neglecting him and was spending most of her time caring for her mother.
During the heated moment, the man reportedly turned his anger toward his mother-in-law. The victim was especially vulnerable since she had undergone brain surgery last year and was still recovering.
The family is now asking for help from authorities so the victim can receive justice for what happened. They believe the man’s actions were unacceptable, especially toward someone who could not defend herself.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development strongly condemned the incident. The agency emphasized that there is no place in society for violence and abuse against women, especially those who have disabilities.
Authorities have already been informed about the incident, and the victim’s family is preparing to file a case against the man.
Meanwhile, government agencies have expressed their readiness to assist the victim and her family, including providing legal support if they decide to pursue charges.
