Motorcycle Rider Dies After Being Run Over by Truck While on the Way to Pick Up Passenger in Pasig
A motorcycle taxi rider has lost his life after being run over by a truck along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City.
On Wednesday afternoon (April 8, 2026), a 55-year-old motorcycle taxi rider was reportedly on his way to pick up a passenger when the incident happened.
Based on the initial investigation by the Pasig Police, the victim’s motorcycle was caught between two large vehicles at the time of the accident. One of the closed vans allegedly sideswiped the rider, causing him to lose balance.
“Itong motorcycle natin, napapagitnaan siya nitong dalawang closed van hanggang sa na-sideswipe siya ng isa rito. Noong pagka-sidesweep, tumilapon sa kabila ang biktima at sakto namang nagulungan siya ng refrigerated van,” Pasig City Police Station chief Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan said.
Due to the impact, he was thrown onto the opposite lane, where a refrigerated truck was passing.
The force of the collision left the rider with severe injuries, especially to his chest and legs. He was declared dead on the spot as the injuries were too serious to survive. The sudden and violent nature of the accident shocked witnesses in the area.
The 41-year-old driver of the closed van explained that the motorcycle appeared unstable before the collision. He said he tried to brake but was unsure if the rider had already hit his vehicle.
After a few moments, he and his helper discovered the victim already trapped under the truck.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old driver of the refrigerated truck shared that he had no way of avoiding the victim, who was suddenly thrown into his lane. He explained that the situation happened very quickly, leaving him with no time to react.
Authorities are reminding motorcycle riders to avoid passing between large vehicles, especially in areas where visibility is limited. Drivers of bigger vehicles are also urged to stay alert and check all sides before moving.
“Maging aral ito sa atin. Sa lahat ng motorcycle riders, huwag na tayong sumingit sa malalaking sasakyan tulad ng mga truck. Sa mga truck driver, tumingin sa bawat anggulo,” Salonga added.
Both drivers involved are now under police custody and may face charges. Investigators continue to gather CCTV footage to better understand the incident.
