NIA Worker in Nueva Vizcaya Beaten to Death & Buried by Construction Workers He Had an Argument With

A 46-year-old National Irrigation Administration – NIA worker was reportedly beaten to death and buried by constructions workers in Nueva Vizcaya.

On Monday (October 12, 2026), authorities recovered the body of an NIA worker buried in a canal in Sitio Lampong, Escoting, Diadi, Nueva Vizcay, following an investigation into his disappearance.

According to police, the victim was last seen alive on Friday, October 9. His wife reported that he had gone to work at an NIA watershed area but failed to return home. She initially thought he had extended his working hours, but became worried when he remained missing for two days.

Investigators learned that the victim had been drinking with his coworkers before visiting a construction workers’ barracks near an ongoing road project. He reportedly wanted to meet a worker who had asked him to look for a dog and was expected to pay him after the animal was found.

However, an argument allegedly broke out while they were drinking, leading to a violent confrontation.

Diadi police chief Police Captain Daryl Marquez said information gathered from the suspects indicated that the victim had insulted one of the workers, prompting another person to punch him. Other companions then allegedly joined in and beat him.

The victim reportedly tried to escape by running toward higher ground, but the group caught up with him and continued the assault until he lost consciousness. One suspect allegedly struck his head against the pavement several times.

The group later decided to hide the body in a canal and covered it with soil using a backhoe. “May kanal po doon, doon nila itinapon, tapos tinabunan nila ng lupa gamit ang backhoe,” PNP Diadi chief Police Captain Daryl Marquez said.

During their investigation, police also discovered the victim’s motorcycle in an unusual location, while its key was found near a concrete mixer.

Three suspects are now under police custody, while authorities continue searching for three others, including a backhoe operator and a married couple who may have information about the incident.

The victim’s body has been brought for an autopsy, and authorities are preparing charges against those involved.
