Sen. Risa Hontiveros Speaks on 2028 Presidential Elections
RISA HONTIVEROS – The opposition Senator reiterated her willingness to run for president in the 2028 Elections.
Amid the speculations and variety of opinions over the next national election, talks of a possible “girl power” tandem in 2028 once floated the names of former Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Hontiveros. The election talks triggered after Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that she will run for president in 2028. She has yet to name her running mate.
There are speculations that presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos may be the running mate of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte alongside other names. According to the Vice President, the person she has “recruited” to be her running mate in the next elections has yet to decide.
Within the opposition’s lane, many members openly expressed their support for former vice president and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo should she reconsider a national comeback. Former Senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative Leila de Lima is even vocal about her belief that Robredo is supposedly the opposition’s strongest contender.
Still around two years ahead of the 2028 Elections, surveys have also suggested that the gap between Naga Mayor Leni Robredo and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has narrowed. However, the former Vice President has announced that she will not run for a national post in 2028.
According to Naga Mayor Leni Robredo, her horizon now is far from the national government already and she is not running for president in 2028. She claimed that she only took it then as she’s the only choice.
Robredo also named potential candidates for the presidency — which includes Sen. Risa Hontiveros. Recently, the Senator reiterated her willingness to take the presidential race in 2028.
Based on News5, Sen. Risa Hontiveros admitted that she is seriously preparing and considering the possibility of a presidential race in 2028. She stressed that she has spoken about it many times.
“Ilang beses ko namang sinabi na bukas at willing akong gawin ‘yung tungkuling iyon. Right now, seryosong pinaghahandaan at kino-consider ‘yung possibility na iyon,” Hontiveros said.
Amid her willingness to run for the presidency in the 2028 Elections, based on the post, Sen. Risa Hontiveros clarified that whether it is she or another member of the opposition who will emerge as the strongest candidate for the presidential race, what is important is they unite.
“Kung ako or kung iba pa sa hanay namin ang lumabas na pinakamalakas… ang magiging posisyon ko pa rin ay magkaisa kami para suportahan, whether ako o iba pa mula sa hanay namin,” the Senator said.
Recently, following the announcement of the former Vice President, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes compared Naga Mayor Leni Robredo and Sen. Risa Hontiveros as he declared the Magdalo Group’s alleged support to the latter.
