Robin Padilla blamed social media for the attitude of the younger generation
Senator Robin Padilla linked the irresponsible use of social media to the shooting incident that happened at the Ateneo de Zamboanga on August 18, 2026.
Based on reports, two students died, including the suspect, and 9 other were injured. Authorities haven’t released further details of the incident that occurred on Tuesday morning.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has released a statement on this matter, expressing concern about the situation.

In a short Facebook Live on August 18, Senator Robin Padilla expressed his thoughts on the shooting incident. Following his greetings, the actor-politician said that he can’t share any details yet regarding the incident as he has only known about this through social media posts.
The Senator said that this issue falls under his committee on public information. “Ito po ay impluwensya ng social media sa ating mga kabataan,” Padilla said, pointing out the reports that the suspect had social media live while the shooting was being committed.
He reiterated that social media has a great impact on the younger generation. Padilla said that he is aware that many people are angry with him regarding this matter when they conducted a public hearing.
Padilla is also hoping that the public will understand what he is trying to point out: that what is happening right now is already alarming.

The lawmaker explained that whenever he would have “wrong choice of words,” it does not mean that he is ridiculing the youth or the younger generation.
“Yaan po ay pang-gising, upang manamnam niyo po ang katotohanan,” the actor-politician said.
He also pointed out that he has already witnessed these horrific crimes. “Ito pong nakikita niyo ngayon, nakita ko na po ito noong araw pa sa Bilibid,” Sen. Robin Padilla said.
