Sen. Robin Padilla had this statement about being a Duterte supporter

Sen. Robin Padilla once again reiterated his support for the Dutertes, however, he stressed that this may not go beyond justice.

Padilla is just among the many celebrity-politician supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Presiden Sara Duterte.

In a recent interview, based on the report from Bandera, the Senator said that he will continue to defend former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte until the Senate officially becomes an impeachment court.

The actor-politician has reiterated this during an interview with DWIZ recently. Padilla said that as a member of the PDP-Laban, it is his right to defend the Duterte camp.

As of now, since we have not yet convened. It is my right to defend Digong as a PDP-Laban member. I will do everything to defend Digong and Inday,” Sen. Robin Padilla said. However, the senator clarified that when the time comes for them to act as impeachment judges in the possible trial of VP Sara, this strong conviction to will change.

Padilla also said that while the Senate is not yet a formal impeachment court, senators still have the right to speak and express their opinions regarding the impeachment complaint.

“Once we convene and become judges, there will be nothing more to discuss about that. We will truly listen to the evidence. But as long as we are still legislators and have not yet worn the hat of being judges, we have the right to speak,” he said.

Padilla’s statement came while the House of Representatives is still awaiting action regarding the impeachment complaint against VP Sara. He previously said that it is the duty of the minority bloc to oppose the convening of the Senate as an impeachment court.

The Senator further defended himself, saying that what some senators are doing against the impeachment proceedings is not “obstructing” the process. He insisted that it is the job of the minority bloc to be a “watchdog” against possible mistakes by the majority.

Padilla is also not convinced that the impeachment complaint against Duterte will reach the Senate because it is possible that other developments will occur in the coming days.

He was also asked if he would still be fair in judging if it reaches an impeachment trial even though he is a known ally of the Duterte family.

“My being an ally of the vice president ends there. Let’s not beat around the bush. I am Digong’s man. But when it comes to the point where we are talking about being a judge, all of that is stripped away. That is very clear in the Constitution,” Sen. Robin Padilal said.
