Many reacted to statement made by Sen. Robin Padilla about recent school shooting incident
Senator Robin Padilla caught the attention of the online community because of his remarks blaming Netflix and other platforms for the violent behavior of today’s youth.
In a Facebook Live broadcast on August 20, the Senator was seen expressing his views following the school shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City.
Previously, the actor-senator condemned the shooting incident in Zamboanga and expressed that social media and violent video games affected the perception of the younger generation.
In his recent Facebook Live, Sen. Robin Padilla slammed the streaming platforms like Netflix for showcasing content with gunfighting.
“‘Yung mga palabas, mga games na ‘yan, yari kayo sa akin sa hearing ko. Wala na tayong paliguy-ligoy. Kapag kayo talaga hindi kayo tumino, maawa kayo sa mga batang Pilipino. Kayo – ‘yung mga Netflix– kayo! Kayong mga nagpapalabas ng online, kayo mga nasa free TV ng Pilipinas na gumagawa kayo ng mga barilan… tama na. Maawa kayo. Ginagaya na kayo talaga,” he said.
The lawmaker also warned those behind this kind of content. “Talagang magpasensyahan tayo. Hindi na tama ‘yan na bata ‘yung namamatay… Kung hindi niyo kayang kontrolin ‘yan, i-ban kayo rito sa Pilipinas,” he stressed.
Padilla also said that if it’s being done in other countries, why can’t the Philippines do it too? He pointed out that if the public is truly serious about preventing these kinds of crimes, then, the country should emulate the laws of other countries that allow them to control the media, such as the mass media and social media.
The Senator added that everything that appears in other countries is regulated, including online content. He reiterated that if the country is really serious and genuinely wants to protect the children, it is not enough to just engage in empty talk while allowing the violence to happen.
“Pambihira. Maghanda kayo sa hearing ko. Subukan ninyong hindi pumunta, pasu-subpoena-hin ko kayo!” he warned.
Sen. Robin Padilla also said that he actually go to the homes of the bereaved, and he spoke with the victims, and their parents. With this, he said, “Kaya subukan ninyong hindi pumunta sa hearing ko, subukan niyo, isu-subpoena ko kayo. Pambihira kayo, puro tayo satsat.”
