Robin Padilla Wants Dismissal of Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Case

ROBIN PADILLA – The Duterte-known ally Senator admitted that he wants the dismissal of the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Following the decision of the Senate, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto could only pray for “God to have mercy” on the decision of the senators to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He attempted to table Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Rodante Marcoleta’s motion to dismiss the impeachment rap but he failed.

Sotto gained only five (5) votes in his motion to table Marcoleta’s motion. The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman agreed to change his motion to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid the claims of a pending Motion for Reconsideration filed by the House of Representatives before the Supreme Court.

The House previously urged the Senate to exercise prudence and patience and to wait for their appeal to the Supreme Court. They asserted that the SC ruling that declared Duterte’s impeachment as “unconstitutional” is not yet final.

Several senators also appealed to their colleagues in the Senate to wait for the final judgment of the Supreme Court. After Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto’s motion lost, the senators voted on the motion to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

The Duterte bloc which includes senators Bong Go, Bato dela Rosa, Robin Padilla, Imee Marcos, Camille Villar, and Mark Villar all voted in favor of archiving the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. However, Sen. Padilla admitted it is not what he really wanted.

Sen. Robin Padilla voted “yes” to the motion to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte but admitted that what he really wants is the dismissal of the case. Based on a post on News5, the actor-turned-Senator wants an end in the issue.

“Ang gusto ko lamang pong liwanagin ay ito. Ang nais ko sana ay katapusan na nito, dismissal. Una pa lang po kami na convene, eh, labag na labag na po sa kalooban ko na matuloy ito,” Padilla said.

Sen. Robin Padilla also revealed that his act of not wearing his impeachment robe when the Senate convened as an impeachment court was indeed a protest. He stressed that the issue is politics and he believes due process is needed here.

“Nakita niyo naman po noong nagkasumpaan talagang ipinaglalaban namin na pulitika ito. Pulitika ito, eh. At kailangan ng due process pero natuloy pa rin po, nag-convene pa rin. Pero hindi pa rin po ako nagsuot ng robe dahil para sa akin ay protesta na ayaw ko po talagang matuloy,” the Senator said.

Sen. Robin Padilla went on to stay that the talks about politics allegedly never stopped since the time of former presidents Emilio Aquinaldo to the time of former Pres. Manuel L. Quezon and to the succeeding presidents of the country — Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Benigno Aquino III, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

In his speech, Sen. Robin Padilla stressed that the Supreme Court allegedly strengthened in its decision that the impeachment is a political process but it can never undermine the person’s right to due process. Based on the post, he emphasized that what he is fighting for is clear and it is the need for the due process.

“Sana po, matapos na po ito at harapin na po natin ang mga tunay na problema ng bayan katulad po ng sweldo, katulad po ng agrikultura, pagkain, kaguluhan sa West Philippine Sea,” Padilla said.

Recently, another Duterte bloc member, Sen. Imee Marcos said that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte thanked God over the Senate ruling as they keep in touch through text messaging.
