ICC Speaks on Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte amid Continued Detention in The Hague

RODRIGO DUTERTE – The International Criminal Court (ICC) said that the incidents of the former President falling is allegedly “rare”.

Former Pres. Duterte remains detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands for more than a year now. His arrest and foreign detention has caused political turmoil and division in the Philippines.

Amid the allegations against him over his controversial war on drugs, Duterte remains firm that he supposedly only did what he did for his country and the Filipino people. He stressed that he did not do anything wrong and he is willing to be tried in a Philippine court.

Several allies of the former President also defended him. According to former presidential spokesman Harry Roque, Duterte allegedly had no official directive to kill over the war on drugs of his administration. Roque who has a pending arrest warrant in the Philippines is also in The Hague now.

Duterte’s former Spokesman is being investigated over his alleged ties with the illegal operators of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations or POGOs. However, as for him, he is allegedly being persecuted for his ties with the Duterte family.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged crimes against humanity over the war on drugs of his administration. He was previously defended by British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman but he recently withdrew from being the legal counsel of the former President.

The Duterte family is only extending good news to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who remains detained inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, former Pres. Duterte is not even aware of the impeachment complaints against her. She stressed that they know that he can die during detention and they don’t want to give him anything to overthink about.

Recently, amid the continued detention of the 81-year-old former President, the ICC claimed that the incidents that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte fell is supposedly “rare”. Based on a report of News5, the former Chief Executive is currently under a cell monitoring as an elderly detained individual.

The move is ICC’s response to Duterte camp’s appeal to observe former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who allegedly frequently falls. Based on the report, there are no records of an accident of the former President in the last 30 days.

Previously, lawyer Nicholas Kaufman spoke on his decision to withdraw from being part of the ICC legal team of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
