Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos Wants Travel Tax Abolished
SANDRO MARCOS – The presidential son and Ilocos Norte Congressman filed a House bill seeking for the immediate abolition of the travel tax.
Recently, many Filipinos have expressed their dismay over the ‘burden’ of having to deal with a travel tax every time you go abroad for vacation, work, business, etc. A lot of people claimed that it has allegedly affected the allocation of their budget to where the money is really needed.
Recently, after presidential son and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos pushed for the “No Work, No Pay” scheme for the House members and senators, the younger Marcos who is also the Majority Floor Leader in the chamber pushed for the abolition of the travel tax.
According to the Philippine Star, Cong. Sandro Marcos wants the travel tax to be abolished immediately, thus, he filed the House Bill No. 7443 or also known as an act abolishing the travel tax.
In his explanatory note, Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos said the travel tax has allegedly outlived its purpose and has become a burden to Filipinos who wants to travel. According to him, abolishing it can boost the mobility, economic, and tourism recovery of the country.
“When travel becomes more expensive, fewer people move, fewer people spend and fewer opportunities circulate through the economy. Lowering the cost of travel allows Filipino families to allocate their money where it matters most,” the younger Marcos said.
Furthermore, Cong. Sandro Marcos stated in the explanatory note of the House Bill No. 7443 that travel is not simply a luxury for many Filipinos. Based on the post, he stressed that it is the way to reconnect with their families and sustain their livelihoods.
The presidential Son also recently filed a bill seeking for a “No Work, No Pay” rule for the House members and the senators to ensure that the absences of the government officials are covered by a valid excuse. In his proposed measure, the young Congressmen claimed that the House members will only be paid if they would attend sessions or work related to their duties.
Amid the ouster attempts against his father, Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos stepped back from participating in the House process of the impeachment complaint versus PBBM.
